- Spread Of Diseases
There are
certain diseases in the world which attack more severely as the temperature
rises. Africa is the worst region which is facing severe health problems in
the world. If the temperature rises then Cholera and Malaria will cause more
deaths in this continent. In other countries of the world Malaria is
spreading sharply due to Global Warming. In Peru 32,000 cases were recorded
in 2007 alone.
- Rise in sea level
About 71% of the
world water is locked in glaciers, oceans and ice caps. The rise in global
temperature will melt these ice covered water bodies and this water will
raise the water level of the seas. Resultantly, arable coastal regions will
be submerged in the seas. The other results of sea rise are destruction of
coastal forests like Mangroove forests in Pakistan, threat to the survival
of sea animals living in shallow or deep water like polar bear and emperor
penguin and rise in the reproduction of unwanted sea animals as well.
- Thinning or Thickening of Glaciers
In most of
the parts of the world glaciers are thinning while in few regions glaciers
are thickening. Thinning of glaciers is called glacier retreat and it is
observed that currently glacier retreat rates and mass
balance losses have been increasing in the Andes, Alps, Himalayas, Rocky
Mountains and North Cascades. In Asian countries the main rivers like
Ganges, Indus, Yangtze and Yellow will lose water till 2035 as reported by
the UN report. This will create a disaster as most of the regions will face
severe water scarcity.
- Violent weather; floods and hurricanes
Due to
rise in temperature there will be severe storms in most of the parts of the
world. Recently, America has faced hurricane Katrina and Rita which brought
havoc to the country. Similarly more storms, floods and hurricanes will hit
the coastal regions of Florida and Mexico. The other parts of the world
which have faced such disaster are Myanmar and Philippines. The recent
cyclone in Myanmar has caused at least 100,000 deaths leaving the country in
complete disarray.
Other
consequences of global warming are forest fires, damaged ecosystem,
increased migration and deaths.
Andrew Simms said,
“We are about half a century away from being
ecologically and economically bankrupt because of global warming”
- Increased Global Migration
It is
estimated by the IPCC scientists that at least 50 million people will
migrate to other places in search of better food and water. The violent
storms and weather will urge the people to migrate. It is also predicted by
the scientists that the worst situation will be faced by the African
countries.
